As the winter starts to shake away and spring temperatures creep in, our parks and local greenways start calling. That call is arguably the loudest for our Transaction Coordinator and resident runner, Siobhan Koch, so we have turned the blog over to her today to share some of her secret (and not so secret) outdoor spots around the neighborhood:
As our team’s avid runner, I can often be found on the Little Sugar Creek Greenway. Starting at Cordelia Park in Villa Heights and trailing through Belmont, the tree canopy provides the perfect shade and, because the path is an area favorite, I often see friends and neighbors as I jog. After completing a loop, I enjoy treating myself to a latte or beer at nearby The Hobbyist. I figure I have earned it!
I recently discovered Evergreen Nature Preserve, which is truly a hidden gem in 28205. Just off Central Avenue on Norland Road, there is a 77-acre unspoiled forest tucked away in the heart of the city. The trails are mostly flat and easy for both young children and dogs to explore, but be prepared for some mud. With its dense tree canopy and resident birdlife, I love the magical quality these woodlands add to my run.
One of my other favorite running routes is through historic Plaza Midwood, winding my way to Midwood Park, or down The Plaza and heading towards Chantilly Park. Ending a run at a local park is a win for both me and my kids, especially as we enjoy more daytime hours after Daylight Savings. Davis Flohr Park (formerly Clemson Avenue Park) was recently remodeled with a new playground and exercise stations for adults so it has quickly become a family favorite. You can start and finish the “OG” NoDa Brewing three-mile loop by parking here.
What’s the next run on my list? The 9th Annual Shamrock Shuffle 5K! This race, which is a fundraiser for Shamrock Gardens Elementary, is close to my heart. Not only is Genevieve Williams Real Estate a sponsor, but our Selling Partner, Rachel Frazier, is also the PTA President at Shamrock Gardens. This year is a virtual Shuffle, so you can choose your own path or use one of the suggested race routes through Plaza Midwood or Country Club Heights through Sunday, March 14. If you are interested in joining me on the 5k, check out the Shamrock Shuffle website to register and for more details.
There are so many incredible greenways and running routes through 28205 and Charlotte. If you have a favorite, share it in the comments below so I can check it out. I look forward to seeing you on the trails!
