This warmer summer weather has us ready to stretch our legs and get moving. If you are itching to switch up your exercise routine or simply looking for something new to try, Charlotte won’t disappoint. The Queen City is filled with unique sports destinations perfectly suited for novices and experts alike. No gym membership required.
U.S. National Whitewater Center
The Whitewater Center tends to make every Charlottean’s activity list, but for good reason. It’s easily one of the best places to get outside and have an adventure. You can whitewater raft, kayak, mountain bike, hike, zipline, and even rock climb. And, speaking from experience, River Jam weekends featuring live music on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights are a summer tradition that shouldn’t be missed!
Topgolf
Driving range meets video game at Topgolf. Designed for all skill levels, this high-tech, high-energy destination is as much of an entertainment venue as a sports complex. Grab some friends, book a bay at one of two Charlotte locations, and let the summer fun begin.
Rally Pickleball
Pickleball swept the nation and quickly became one of Charlotte’s favorite pastimes over the last few years. The paddle sport combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong for guaranteed fun. There are several spots to play in Charlotte, but Rally tops our list. Sign up for classes to improve your game, play in a summer league, or grab an open court with your friends.
BATL Axe Throwing
If you’re seeking a thrill with a side of sports, axe throwing fits the bill. Talk about a unique experience and an activity to remember! Regardless of your strength or size, you can quickly learn the basics of axe throwing – aim, step, release – at BATL locations in both Plaza Midwood and LoSo.
Inner Peaks Climbing
Reach new heights (literally) at Charlotte’s premier indoor climbing center. Inner Peaks’ South End location offers 17,000 square feet of climbing, including a 40 vertical foot wall, 45 rope stations, and bouldering for beginners and experienced climbers alike. Inner Peaks also has plans to open a new NoDa location this fall for even more fitness fun.
NASCAR Racing Experience
NASCAR Racing Experience was created for those with a need for speed. You can get behind the wheel and put the pedal to the metal at the famed Charlotte Motor Speedway. It’s as real of a race experience as you can get. You also have the option to ride shotgun with a professional driving instructor if that’s more up your lane.
Open Door Studios
Offering a variety of drop-in classes for adults of all levels, Open Door Studios will have you dreaming of being a dancer. Ballet, Jazz, Tap, and Hip Hop are just a handful of styles you can enjoy seven days a week in their Central Ave. studio.
