Mother’s Day is only a couple days away (hint: it’s Sunday). If you haven’t thought of a gift yet, you’re running low on time. Thankfully, Charlotte offers plenty in the way of experiences for you and mom, and the whole family, this weekend. Here are our picks for celebrating Mom:
Try something new and experiential for Mother’s Day with a visit to the recently-opened The Candle Bar pop-up at the Design Center. Reserve a spot for you and Mom for $35 per person. You can select your vessel and fragrance, and then learn how to make your own candle. Don’t forget — you can BYOB.
Spend the day in the garden at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden’s Wine Walk on Saturday, May 11. Guests receive a garden wine glass and get to sample six wines at stations throughout the grounds. The event runs from noon to 3 p.m. and costs $25 to $30. Register in advance.
For a cool evening outdoors, head to the U.S. National Whitewater Center on Saturday for River Jam. The event is free (just pay $6 for parking) and the USNWC offers a wide variety of food and craft beer selections. This Saturday catch Kendall Street Company from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The Bechtler Museum Family Day
Children 18 and under get free admission to the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art on Saturday, making it a perfect time to take the family to celebrate Mom. Check out the current exhibits Sculpture from the Bechtler Collection and Nomadic Murals: Tapestries of the Modern Era and participate in workshops.
Truly pamper Mom this Sunday with a trip to The Ballantyne Hotel. Start at the spa and make sure to use the facilities available: indoor pools, steam room and sauna, lounge, spa boutique and dining. Finish up the trip with afternoon tea service.
Brunch
The classic for Mother’s Day is to treat Mom to brunch. For a neighborhood favorite, check out The Stanley. The menu changes daily, but find brunch favorites like donuts, brioche french toast, and fried chicken biscuits. For Uptown, Fin and Fino is offering a Mother’s Day Sunday Supper, available from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The full dinner menu is available all day with a champagne toast.
