October is upon us, which means it’s officially spooking season. Now, our office isn’t a big fan of scary. We are more of a treat vs. trick people. So, while you won’t catch us watching horror movies, it’s a safe bet that Practical Magic will be on our watchlist this month. If you aren’t familiar with the late 90s Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock movie, you need to remedy that immediately. Sally and Gillian’s Victorian home in the movie made our team’s list of The TV & Movie Homes Where We Want to Live earlier this year and now it has become the inspiration behind a new design trend we are loving.

Let us introduce you to “Whimsigoth,” a term coined to describe the mystical, moody aesthetic that has gained popularity in recent months. The design style injects a playful or whimsical twist into gothic decor, which can often be seen as more formal and serious. It mixes dark pieces with items that feel ethereal to create a romantic and magical vibe. Think dark wood, luxurious velvet, worn antique rugs, moody florals, celestial motifs, and saturated colors. So dramatic!

This trend may be a little more niche than our typical design picks, but it’s perfect for the season. It also gives Genevieve an even bigger excuse to embrace her love of all things Stevie Nicks (IYKYK) because this trend screams Stevie. Of course, you don’t take our word for it. Check out these Whismsigoth interiors that are sure to make you feel the magic…
